The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,193,403 with the global confirmed cases reaching 101,562,751 as of 8 pm BJT on Friday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 8 pm BJT, January 29):

Russia registered 19,238 more COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, roughly the same as in the previous day, the country's COVID-19 response center said Friday.

Malaysia recorded 5,725 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in its highest daily spike since the outbreak of the coronavirus in the Asian country, bringing its total tally to 203,933, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

China's Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 50 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, taking its total tally to 10,371.

The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 13,802 in the past 24 hours to 1,051,795, with the death toll adding by 187 to 29,518, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

Thailand confirmed 802 new cases of coronavirus infection with Samut Sakhon province still reporting hundreds of cases daily, Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said Friday.

New Zealand reported six new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation on Friday, with no new cases in the community detected.
