The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,866,375 with the global confirmed cases reaching 86,356,854 as of 9:00 am BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9:00 am BJT, Jan 6):

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 357,067 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 21,036,174, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 9:00 am BJT on Wednesday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 10,356,844. The death toll grew to 149,850.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 7,810,400. The death toll grew to 197,732.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 3,250,713 with 58,706 deaths.

It is followed by UK with 2,782,690 infections and 76,427 deaths, France with 2,737,884 infections and 66,417 deaths, Turkey with 2,270,101 cases and 21,879 deaths, Italy with 2,181,619 cases and 76,329 deaths and Spain with 1,982,544 cases and 51,430 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 1,814,565 with 36,086 deaths.
