Globally, as of 6 pm BJT on Wednesday, there have been 16,523,815 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 655,112 deaths, reported the World Health Organization.

The outbreak has now claimed 151,685 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 4,446,219 infections, according to a tally by the 1Point3Acres virus tracker as of 6 pm BJT on Wednesday.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 2,483,191 with 88,539 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

India has confirmed a total of 1,531,669 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 34,193.

Russia has confirmed 827,455 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 13,642.

South Africa has recorded 459,761 confirmed cases and 7,257 deaths.

It is followed by Mexico with 44,876 deaths from 402,697 infections.

Peru has reported 395,005 COVID-19 cases and 18,612 deaths from the virus so far.

A total of 349,800 people in Chile have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 9,240.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 302,295, with the number of deaths at 45,963, according to the JHU virus tracker.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 16,147 lives in Iran, bringing the total number of infections to 296,273.
