The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 453,268 with the global confirmed cases reaching 8,463,533 as of 10:30 am BJT on Friday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

This marks the eighth day in which the daily toll from the virus has been fewer than 1,000, even as the US remains the country hardest-hit by the pandemic with a total of 118,421 deaths out of a total of 2,189,128 official cases as of 10:30 am BJT on Friday. 

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 978,142 with 47,748 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

Russia has confirmed 560,321 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 7,650.

India has reported 366,946 COVID-19 cases and 12,237 deaths from the virus so far.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 301,935, with the number of deaths at 42,373, according to the JHU virus tracker.

Spain has recorded 245,268 confirmed cases and 27,136 deaths.

Peru has confirmed a total of 240,908 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 7,257.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 34,514 lives in Italy, bringing the total number of infections to 238,159.

A total of 225,103 people in Chile have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 3,841.

It is followed by Iran with 9,272 deaths from 197,647 infections.
