National authorities around the world reported 7,499 new coronavirus cases and 342 new deaths on Friday, according to statistics in the daily situation report by the the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO said the global number of reported cases of COVID-19 rose to 132,758 by 10 am on Friday (CET), with 51,767 outside China.

Current status (data as of 10 am BJT, March 14):

By the end of Friday, the Chinese mainland reported 11 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infections, among which seven originated overseas. This is the first time imported cases outnumbered those with domestic origin. 

The WHO announced Europe has become the epicenter of the pandemic as coronavirus infections in China slow down and the continent reports more new cases and deaths than the rest of the world. 

The coronavirus epidemic continued to claim lives in locked down Italy on Friday, with 250 new deaths, bringing the country's total death toll to 1,266.

Spain on Friday declared a state of alert across the country for a period of 15 day after infections soared to 4,334 with about half the cases in the capital of Madrid. 

Local media said a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps died from coronavirus. The Middle Eastern country announced the coronavirus deaths had passed 500 and 11,364 people were confirmed infected. 

The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States has topped 2,000, according to a tally compiled by Johns Hopkins University. US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced a deal with the Trump administration for a coronavirus relief package after the US entered a national emergency over the pandemic.
