Current status (data as of 6:30 pm BJT, March 15):

By the end of Saturday, the Chinese mainland reported 20 new confirmed cases of novel coronavirus infections, among which 16 originated overseas. China is facing a risk of a second wave from overseas as imported cases have outnumbered those with a domestic origin for three days in a row.

Italian health workers have been suffering extreme fatigue as the country’s infections topped 20,000 on Saturday, with nearly 1,500 killed by the coronavirus.

South Korea reported 76 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the first time a daily figure of new cases has been under 100 in the past three weeks.

Following the example of Italy, Spain imposed a near-total nationwide lockdown, banning people from leaving home except to go to work, get medical care or buy food. Begona Gomez, the wife of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

US President Donald Trump tested negative despite contact with multiple people who had been confirmed with coronavirus infection, according the president’s personal physician.
