The global death toll from COVID-19 increased by 1344 to 11,184 in the past 24 hours as of 00:00 CET on Saturday, according to the daily situation report released by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The report showed a total of 266,073 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported as of Saturday, an increase of 32,000 infections compared to the previous day.

Italy reported 6,557 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday, raising the total to 53,578.

Spain on Saturday reported a spike in new deaths from the coronavirus, bringing the country total to 1,328 fatalities. The number of infections across the country also shot up to 24,926.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the US reached 24,148 with 285 deaths.

Germany confirmed a total of 75 deaths from coronavirus as of Saturday and the number of cases had risen to 21,828.

Iran's Health Ministry announced 20,610 coronavirus cases in the country as of Saturday local time, and 1,556 people have died.

France on Saturday reported 112 new COVID-19 deaths, and infection cases rose by 1,847 to 14,459.

South Korea reported 98 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total national infections to 8,897, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) said Sunday local time.

There have been 6,284 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 72 deaths in Switzerland as of Saturday.

The number of people in the UK who have died after contracting the coronavirus rose to 178 and the number of people tested positive reached 4,145 on Saturday.

The Netherlands has itself recorded 136 deaths and 3,631 cases in total as of Saturday, according to the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment.
