The global confirmed cases of COVID-19 have reached 474,204, according to the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University as of 7 pm on Thursday (BJT).

China is still under great pressure in preventing the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) as 23 provincial-level regions have reported imported infection cases. By the end of Wednesday, a total of 541 imported cases have been reported in China, a health official said Thursday. 

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported daily in Italy is dropping steadily while the daily death toll is still fluctuating. A total of 3,491 new cases were reported on Wednesday, representing a downward trend from the past few days.

Worldwide, the death toll climbed past 21,000, according to a running count kept by Johns Hopkins University, and the US had 1,050 deaths and nearly 70,000 infections.

The Iran government confirmed 2,389 new cases on Thursday morning, bringing the total number of infections to 29,406.

The coronavirus death toll in Spain surged to 4,089 after 655 people died within 24 hours, the health ministry said on Thursday.

According to the latest figures, 463 people have died from the virus and more than 9,500 people have been infected in the UK. London makes up a third of the UK total.
