The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 2,588,789 with the global confirmed cases reaching 116,540,466 as of 5:30 pm BJT on Sunday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 524,362 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 28,952,950.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 11,210,799. The death toll grew to 157,756.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 10,938,836. The death toll grew to 264,325.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 4,274,263 with 87,614 deaths.

It is followed by UK with 4,225,906 cases and 124,654 deaths, France with 3,942,243 cases and 88,597 deaths, Spain with 3,149,012 cases and 71,138 deaths, Italy with 3,046,762 cases and 99,578 deaths and Turkey with 2,769,230 cases and 28,965 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Germany have increased to 2,502,163 with 71,951 deaths.
