The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 79,525 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,329,203, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:32 am BJT on Monday.

The Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Services on Sunday reported a fall in the number of new deaths due to COVID-19 and a slight rise in the number of new cases in the country. The death toll rose to 26,621 after 143 people lost their lives in the 24-hour period as of 9 pm local time (1900 GMT) on Saturday. The ministry reported 621 new infections, slightly up from the 604 new cases reported in the previous day, taking the caseload to 224,390.

Another 269 COVID-19 patients have died in the UK as of Saturday afternoon, marking the lowest increase in a 24-hour period since March 29, the Department of Health and Social Care said Sunday. The total novel coronavirus-related death toll in the country has hit 31,855, as 219,183 people tested positive for the disease, said the department.

Italy on Sunday recorded its lowest one-day COVID-19 death total and the smallest number of new infections in more than two months, Italy's Ministry of Health said. The total death toll from Italy's coronavirus outbreak is now 30,560, while the total number of infections is 219,070.

Russia has reported 11,012 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 209,688, its coronavirus response center said in a statement on Sunday.

The death toll from the coronavirus pandemic in France rose by 70 to 26,380, the lowest daily toll in nearly two months, while the number of patients in intensive care keeps falling, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 177,094, according to Johns Hopkins University.

It is followed by Germany with 7,569 deaths from 171,879 infections.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 162,699 with 11,123 deaths.

Turkey reported 1,542 new cases of COVID-19 and 47 new deaths in the past 24 hours, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said Sunday. Turkey's total confirmed cases stood at 138,657, and the death toll reached 3,786, the minister tweeted.

The Iranian health ministry announced 1,383 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 107,603, official IRNA news agency reported. There were also 51 new deaths, taking the total number of fatalities to 6,640, Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education, was quoted as saying.
