The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,023,601 with the global confirmed cases reaching 158,608,062 as of 10:00 am BJT on Tuesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 10:00 am BJT, May 11):

The outbreak has now claimed 596,134 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 33,509,118 infections, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 10:00 am BJT on Tuesday.

India has confirmed a total of 22,662,575 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 246,116.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 15,209,990 with 423,229 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 5,841,586 confirmed cases and 106,845 deaths.

Turkey has confirmed 5,044,936 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 43,311 .

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 111,740 lives in Russia, bringing the total number of infections to 4,832,959.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 4,452,935, with the number of deaths at 127,869, according to the JHU virus tracker.

A total of 4,116,287 people in Italy have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 123,031.

It is followed by Spain with 78,895 deaths from 3,581,392 infections.

Germany has reported 3,538,208 COVID-19 cases and 84,907 deaths from the virus so far.
