The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 3,312,199 with the global confirmed cases reaching 159,305,473 as of 10:00 am BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

Current status (data as of 10:00 am BJT, May 12):

The outbreak has now claimed 582,791 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 32,773,387 infections, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 10:00 am BJT on Wednesday.

India has confirmed a total of 22,992,517 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 249,992.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 15,209,990 with 425,540 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 5,861,384 confirmed cases and 107,096 deaths.

Turkey has confirmed 5,059,433 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 43,589.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 112,063 lives in Russia, bringing the total number of infections to 4,840,948.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 4,455,440, with the number of deaths at 127,890, according to the JHU virus tracker.

A total of 4,123,230 people in Italy have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 123,282.

It is followed by Spain with 79,100 deaths from 3,586,333 infections.

Germany has reported 3,547,901 COVID-19 cases and 85,206 deaths from the virus so far.
