The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 4,438,371 with the global confirmed cases reaching 302,376 as of 10 am BJT on Friday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 85,886 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,417,512, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 10 am BJT on Friday.

The Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Services said Friday that the caseload in Spain has reached 229,540 and the death toll had reached 27,321.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 31,368 deaths in Italy, according to the latest data released by the country's Civil Protection Department on Friday. The total number of infections, fatalities and recoveries arrived at 223,096 since the pandemic began in Italy on Feb. 21.

The total coronavirus-related death toll in the UK reached 33,693, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said Friday. The number of confirmed cases rose to 234,440, according to Johns Hopkins University.

Russia has reported the total infections of 252,245 as of Friday, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement. The death toll from the pandemic increased to 2,305, the statement said.

France on Friday registered the tally of COVID-19-related infections to 178,994, while new hospital admissions continued to slow as the government plans to ease anti-coronavirus lockdown on May 11, according to its Health Ministry. The number of death cases rose to 27,428, according to Johns Hopkins University.

It is followed by Germany with 7,884 deaths from 174,478 infections.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 202,918 with 13,993 deaths.

Turkey on Friday reported the total number of infections in the country to 144,749. The death toll from the virus in Turkey reached 4,007, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted.

The Iranian Health Ministry on Friday confirmed the total number of cases in the country 114,533, state-run IRNA news agency reported. The death toll reached 6,854, said Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
