The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 3,405,121 with the global confirmed cases reaching 164,258,588 as of 5:00 pm BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed 587,219 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 32,997,505 infections.

India has confirmed a total of 25,496,330 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 283,248.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 15,732,836 with 439,050 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 5,959,593 confirmed cases and 108,201 deaths.

Turkey has confirmed 5,139,485 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 45,186.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 114,619 lives in Russia, bringing the total number of infections to 4,900,995.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 4,466,220, with the number of deaths at 127,953, according to the JHU virus tracker.

A total of 4,167,025 people in Italy have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 124,497.

It is followed by Spain with 79,502 deaths from 3,619,848 infections.

Germany has reported 3,619,160 COVID-19 cases and 86,672 deaths from the virus so far.
