The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 98,218 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,662,375, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:32 am BJT on Tuesday.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 374,898 with 23,473 deaths.

Russia has confirmed a total number of infections to 353,427. The death toll grew to 3,633.

Another 121 COVID-19 patients had died in the UK as of Sunday afternoon, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 36,914, the Department of Health and Social Care said Monday. As of Monday morning, 261,184 people had tested positive in Britain, an daily increase of 1,625, according to the department.

It is followed by Spain with 235,400 infections and 26,834 deaths, Italy with 230,158 cases and 32,877 deaths, France with 183,067 cases and 28,460 fatalities and Germany with 180,600 infections and 8,309 deaths.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey reached to 157,814 on Monday, with 987 new daily cases, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said. The death toll surged to 4,369 after 29 new fatalities in the past 24 hours, the minister tweeted.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 144,950. The death toll grew to 4,172.
