The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 3,480,630 with the global confirmed cases reaching 167,611,903 as of 9:00 am BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University.

Current status (data as of 9:00 am BJT, May 26):

The infrastructure for a digital vaccination certificate allowing the free movement of people around the European Union(EU) will be ready from June 1, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday.

Turkey on Tuesday confirmed 9,375 new COVID-19 cases, including 693 symptomatic patients, raising the total number of cases in the country to 5,203,385.

Argentina reported on Tuesday 576 more COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, for a total of 75,056 deaths, the Ministry of Health said, adding that there were also 24,601 new cases reported, to a total of 3,586,736.

Iran reported on Tuesday 11,873 new COVID-19 cases, taking the country's total infections to 2,855,396.

Chile on Tuesday began vaccinating people under the age of 30 as part of the country's mass inoculation campaign against COVID-19, which has immunized 50 percent of the target population so far.

Cuba reported 1,291 new daily COVID-19 infections and 11 more deaths, reaching 135,499 cases and 901 deaths, the Ministry of Public Health said on Tuesday.

Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 30 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total tally to 61,890.
