The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 67,674 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,157,753, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:32 am BJT on Monday.

Spanish health authorities on Sunday confirmed the lowest numbers of new deaths and new infection cases in a 24-hour period since the country was placed under a State of Alarm on March 15. The total number of confirmed infection cases in Spain now stands at 217,466. The ministry said a total of 25,264 people have died from COVID-19 in Spain so far. 

A further 174 COVID-19 patients had died in the past 24 hours in Italy, bringing the country's death toll to 28,884, out of total infection cases of 210,717, according to fresh figures on Sunday.

According to the latest figures, 28,446 people have now died after testing positive for COVID-19 in the UK, up 315 on Saturday. The number of positive cases rose by 4,339 to 186,599.

Figures released by the French Health Ministry on Sunday showed that coronavirus-linked fatalities in the country rose up by 135 to 24,895, representing the lowest daily toll since March 22. A total of 168,925 people have tested positive for coronavirus, according to Johns Hopkins University.

It is followed by Germany with 6,866 deaths from 165,664 infections.

Russia on Sunday reported a new single-day record with 10,633 COVID-19 cases confirmed over the last 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 134,687, its coronavirus response center said in a statement.

Turkey's total confirmed cases of COVID-19 reached 126,045, with 1,670 new patients reported in the last 24 hours, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Sunday. The death toll from the novel coronavirus in Turkey reached 3,397 after 61 more lost their lives over the past 24 hours, Koca tweeted.

Brazil registered 101,147 confirmed cases of the virus by Sunday, according to figures released by the Brazilian health ministry, with 275 deaths from COVID-19 within the previous 24 hours.

The total number of infections in Iran has risen to 97,424, with the number of deaths at 6,203.
