The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 68,920 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,180,332, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 8:32 am BJT on Tuesday.

As of 21:00 Sunday local time (1900 GMT), the Spanish Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Services confirmed just 356 new cases in a 24-hour period, taking the country's caseload to 218,011. The ministry also confirmed 164 new deaths, taking the total number of victims of the virus to 25,428.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed over 29,000 lives in Italy, bringing the total number of infections, fatalities and recoveries to 211,938 as of Monday, according to the latest data released by the country's Civil Protection Department. The death toll on Monday was 195, bringing the nationwide fatalities to 29,079 since the pandemic first broke out in the northern Lombardy region.

Another 288 COVID-19 patients have died in the UK, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 28,734, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said Monday. The number of positive cases rose to 191,832, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The COVID-19 death toll in France has increased to 25,201 after 306 deaths were registered on Monday, the health ministry said. The number of confirmed cases rose to 169,583, according to Johns Hopkins University.

It is followed by Germany with 6,993 deaths from 166,152 infections.

Russia has reported 10,581 new confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections rising to 145,268 as of Monday, the country's coronavirus response center said in a statement. The death toll from the pandemic in Russia has increased by 76 to 1,356.

The Turkish health minister on Monday confirmed 1,614 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 127,659. The deaths from the coronavirus have reached 3,461 after 64 new fatalities in the past 24 hours, Fahrettin Koca tweeted.

Confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Brazil rose from 101,147 to 105,222, while the death toll rose from 7,025 to 7,288, with a fatality rate of 6.9 percent, the Ministry of Health reported on Monday.

The Iranian health ministry on Monday confirmed 1,223 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number in the country to 98,647, state-run IRNA news agency reported. Over the past 24 hours, 74 patients were confirmed dead from the virus, raising the death toll to 6,277, said Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education.
