The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 3,242,572 with the global confirmed cases reaching 155,224,227 as of 5:00 pm BJT on Thursday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University (JHU).

The outbreak has now claimed 579,276 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 32,557,603 infections.

India has confirmed a total of 20,077,410 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 230,168.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 14,930,183 with 414,399 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 5,767,541 confirmed cases and 105,792 deaths.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 41,883 lives in Turkey, bringing the total number of infections to 4,955,594.

Russia has confirmed 4,792,354 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 110,022.

The UK's confirmed cases have increased to 4,441,644 with the number of deaths at 127,830, according to the JHU virus tracker.

A total of 4,070,400 people in Italy have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 122,005.

It is followed by Spain with 78,566 deaths from 3,551,262 infections.

Germany has reported 3,484,755 COVID-19 cases and 84,142 deaths from the virus so far.
