The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,272,911 with the global confirmed cases reaching 51,502,104 as of 4:26 pm BJT on Wednesday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 239,683 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 10,257,825.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 8,636,011. The death toll grew to 127,571.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 5,699,005. The death toll grew to 162,802.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in France have increased to 1,857,309 with 41,062 deaths.

It is followed by Russia with 1,822,345 infections and 31,326 deaths, Spain with 1,381,218 infections and 39,345 deaths, Argentina with 1,262,476 infections and 34,183 deaths, United Kingdom with 1,237,198 infections and 49,861 deaths and Colombia with 1,155,356 cases and 33,128 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Italy have increased to 995,463 with 43,330 deaths.
