The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,285,187 with the global confirmed cases reaching 52,145,629 as of 4:26 pm BJT on Thursday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 241,800 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 10,400,942.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 8,683,916. The death toll grew to 128,121.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 5,747,660. The death toll grew to 163,368.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in France have increased to 1,914,918 with 42,599 deaths.

It is followed by Russia with 1,843,678 infections and 31,755 deaths, Spain with 1,417,709 infections and 40,105 deaths, Argentina with 1,273,356 infections and 34,531 deaths, United Kingdom with 1,260,198 infections and 50,457 deaths and Colombia with 1,165,326 cases and 33,312 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Italy have increased to 1,028,424 with 42,953 deaths.
