The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 1,432,817 with the global confirmed cases reaching 61,026,993 as of 5:30 pm BJT on Friday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 263,455 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 12,883,846, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 5:30 pm BJT on Friday.

India has confirmed a total of 9,309,787 COVID-19 cases, raising the number of deaths to 135,715.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Brazil have increased to 6,204,220 with 171,460 deaths, Johns Hopkins reported.

France has recorded 2,235,537 confirmed cases and 51,041 deaths.

Russia has confirmed 2,196,691 cases of COVID-19, with the number of deaths at 38,175.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 44,374 lives in Spain, bringing the total number of infections to 1,617,355.

The UK has reported 1,578,429 COVID-19 cases and 57,128 deaths from the virus so far.

It is followed by Italy with 52,850 deaths from 1,509,875 infections.

A total of 1,399,431 people in Argentina have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 37,941.

Colombia's confirmed cases have increased to 1,280,487, with the number of deaths at 36,019, according to the JHU virus tracker.
