Globally, as of 5:47 pm CEST on Wednesday, there have been 40,665,438 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 1,121,843 deaths, reported to WHO.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 222,210 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 8,338,091, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 4:24 pm BJT on Thursday.

India has confirmed a total number of infections to 7,706,946. The death toll grew to 116,616.

Brazil has confirmed a total number of infections to 5,298,772. The death toll grew to 155,403.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Russia have increased to 1,453,923 with 25,072 deaths.

It is followed by Argentina with 1,037,325 infections and 27,519 deaths, Spain with 1,005,295 infections and 34,366 deaths, France with 1,000,369 cases and 34,075 deaths, Colombia with 981,700 cases and 29,464 deaths and Peru with 874,118 cases and 33,875 deaths.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mexico have increased to 867,559 with 87,415 deaths.
