The total number of deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide has increased to 872,569 with the global confirmed cases reaching 26,510,880 as of 8.30 am BJT on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

The outbreak has now claimed 191,130 lives in the US, the most of any country, with a total of 6,336,362 infections, according to a tally by the 1Point3Acres virus tracker as of 7 pm BJT on Saturday.

Brazil has registered 125,502 deaths from the novel coronavirus disease, raising the total number of cases to 4,091,801, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday.

India's total COVID-19 tally rose to 3,936,747 and the number of deaths surged to 68,472, according to the latest data issued by the federal health ministry on Saturday.

Russia took its total to 1,011,987, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Friday.

Peru has reported 670,145 COVID-19 cases and 29,405 deaths from the virus so far.

The Colombia's confirmed cases have increased to 641,574 with the number of deaths at 20,618, according to the JHU virus tracker.

South Africa has recorded 635,078 confirmed cases and 14,678 deaths.

It is followed by Mexico with 66,329 deaths from 616,894 infections.

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed 29,418 lives in Spain, bringing the total number of infections to 498,989.

A total of 461,882 people in Argentina have tested positive for COVID-19, with the death toll at 9,623.
