Tokyo stocks open essentially flat on Wall Street's rise, profit-taking

TOKYO, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened essentially flat on Tuesday as some investors bought on the back of Wall Street's overnight rise and others sold to secure gains made recently.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 10.79 points, or 0.05 percent, from Monday to 23,831.90.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 0.70 point, or 0.04 percent, at 1,730.12.

Farm and fishery, and glass and ceramic product issues led notable gainers, while insurance, and electric power and gas-oriented issues comprised those that declined the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
