TOKYO, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks continued to drop Thursday morning, briefly sending the Nikkei index below 22,000 for the first time since last October over fears about an increase in coronavirus infections in the United States.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 401.14 points, or 1.79 percent, from Wednesday to 22,025.05.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 30.71 points, or 1.91 percent, at 1,575.46.

Marine transportation, mining and securities house issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break.
