Washington (People's Daily)-President Donald Trump has nominated Brett Kavanaugh to fill the newest vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court, choosing a conservative figure who, if confirmed, could push a divided court to the right after years of seesaw rulings.
Brett Kavanaugh, 53, was confirmed to his position on the Court of Appeals for DC on May 26, 2006, about 12 years ago. The 53-year-old worked in the administration of each President Bush and also for independent counsel Kenneth Starr in the investigation that eventually led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton.
The revamped court, whose term begins in October, could take a fresh look at some of the most polarizing disputes of modern American life, including abortion, affirmative action, and the limits of executive power wielded by Mr. Trump and his successors.
