"The president's health condition is stable," presidential advisor Firas Kafrach told Tunis Afrique Presse.

"I reassure all Tunisians about the health condition of the president who is receiving the necessary medical care," Tunisian Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said on his official Facebook page.

Chahed called for avoiding any rumors that could cause disorder in the country.

Essebsi was taken on Thursday to the military hospital in Tunis following a "serious health problem," said the presidency in a statement.

This is the second time in a few days that the president fell ill. On Saturday, Essebsi was admitted into hospital in Tunis for medical examinations over a sudden indisposition diagnosed as "not dangerous."

Essebsi was born in November 1926 and took over the Tunisian presidency after winning the 2014 presidential elections.
