ANKARA, June 23 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's tally of COVID-19 cases surged to 190,165, after 1,268 new cases were added, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 27 more people died from the infectious disease in a single day, taking the death toll to 5,001, the minister tweeted.

Koca said that 1,315 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total recoveries to 162,848.

He said that 42,982 tests were conducted in the day, with the overall number of tests reaching 3,029,635.

Turkey is currently treating 893 patients in intensive care units, with 362 people intubated, Koca added.

Turkey, which reported the first COVID-19 case on March 11, has stepped up the normalization process since June 1.

Turkey and China have supported each other in the fight against COVID-19. The leaders of the two countries held a phone conversation on April 8, pledging to cooperate on combating the pandemic and deepen the bilateral ties.

China has facilitated the procurement of medical supplies by Turkey.

On April 10, Chinese doctors and medical experts held a video conference with Turkish counterparts to share China's experiences in treating coronavirus patients, protecting medical workers, and controlling the spread of the virus. Enditem
