ANKARA, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Turkey has captured the wife of the dead leader of the Islamic State (IS) Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Syria, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Wednesday.

"I'm declaring today, for the first time, that we have also captured al-Baghdadi's wife," Erdogan said at a ceremony.

Turkey captured al-Baghdadi's sister and her husband in Syria on Monday, the Turkish interior minister said Tuesday.

Al-Baghdadi was killed in a late-night US-led airstrike in a compound near the village of Barisha in northwestern Syria on Oct. 26.
