England's chief medical officer Chris Whitty said the two new patients caught the virus while they were in Italy and Tenerife.

Last week was the half-term break for students in the UK. This week, more than 10 schools had been closed over fears that students and staff may have been exposed to coronavirus after traveling abroad during the vacation.

Meanwhile, some UK hospitals and GPs started to test flu patients for coronavirus. The tests will provide an "early warning" if the virus is spreading, said Paul Cosford of Public Health England.
