The UK’s leading think tank, the Henry Jackson Society (HJS), released its annual world’s geopolitical prowess report on Friday, claiming that the UK is the world’s second most powerful nation, but implied that China might overtake it.
The Audit of Geopolitical Capability Report says the US is the most powerful country in the world, with the UK and China ranked 2nd and 3rd, respectively. France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Australia, India and Russia round out the top 10.
The study pointed out that the UK retains its unique ability to “project and extend itself around the world”, describing it as “a truly global power”. Besides its military power, the report also considered the UK’s diplomatic, financial and cultural capabilities and links around the world.
But the report said the UK's position is being challenged by Russia and China.
The 62-page report claims to be the world’s “most comprehensive ranking” of national capability. Some have questioned it on social media, doubting its authenticity and said the ranking was commercialized.
