KIEV, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed a prisoners exchange in Donbas and mine clearance with President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Peter Maurer, the Ukrainian president's press service reported Tuesday.

Zelensky thanked the ICRC for its humanitarian assistance to Ukraine, which has been especially important since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Maurer noted the importance of his visit to Donbas, since the upcoming trip will allow him to see the real situation in the region.

The ICRC president said Ukraine is one of the most-mined territories in the world and this problem will persist for many years to come.

The Trilateral Contact Group discussed preparations for the start of demining in 19 agreed areas, and all technical details of this process are currently being settled, said Zelensky.

The Ukrainian president asked Maurer to assist in obtaining lists of detainees from the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" and the "Lugansk People's Republic."

In August, Ukraine sent the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe a list for the next exchange of detainees, which includes about 100 people.

The potential upcoming swap came as a part of an agreement made last year during the Normandy Four Summit of the Ukrainian, Russian, German and French leaders held in Paris in December and would be the fourth prisoner exchange since Zelensky took office as president.

The prisoner exchange is one step aimed at ending the six-year conflict in eastern Ukraine, which has claimed more than 13,000 lives and left 30,000 wounded.
