New York (People's Daily) - Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Zhang Jun met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Monday to discuss the efforts China has put forth in combating the novel coronavirus.

Zhang said the Chinese government attaches paramount importance in preventing and controlling the epidemic with President Xi Jinping providing instructions.

Placing the interests of the people first, China has implemented nationwide disease prevention and control measures.

In working with the international community, China has maintained a spirit of openness, transparency, and scientific coordination.

With great responsibility, China has not spared any efforts to curb the spread of the disease and save human life. Now is a crucial moment, and China has full capability and confidence in winning the battle against the novel coronavirus.

Guterres said that at such a critical time, the UN stands in solidarity with the Chinese government and its people.

The UN appreciates China’s effort, has full confidence in China’s ability to control the outbreak, and stands ready to provide any support and assistance, Guterres said.
