BEIRUT, March 28 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) on Monday launched the Lebanon Export Academy to equip MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises) operating in the agri-food sector and cooperatives with the required know-how and practical export skills.
Launched by the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the academy is the first of its kind in Lebanon and will provide training to 70 MSMEs and cooperatives, 40 of which are women-led businesses, a UN statement reported.
Lebanon is undergoing an unprecedented economic and financial crisis classified by the World Bank as one of the worst the world has seen in the past 150 years.
Since October 2019, 79 percent of firms reduced their sales by 69 percent and small firms bore a bigger impact as demands for products and services drop, said the World Bank.
