New York (People’s Daily) – The United Nations met on Wednesday to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the adoption for the UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) and its international efforts to stamp out crime, with representatives from China offering support for its ongoing activities.

Representatives from 183 States parties and relevant international organizations attended the meeting along with President of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, Miroslav Lajčák and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. The meeting reached a consensus to improve the role of the Convention, strengthen practical cooperation among countries, and take effective measures to prevent and combat corruption.

The Chinese delegation to the conference emphasized that fighting corruption is a just cause and is the common aspiration and voice of people of all countries. The Chinese representatives said the Convention must pursue multilateralism and strengthen unity and cooperation to fight against corruption. They also mentioned that international cooperation should adhere to the “zero tolerance” attitude, create a “zero loophole” system, and create cooperation without barriers.

China said it supports the UN in its international cooperation for anti-corruption since it connects to the nation’s plan to build a shared future for mankind. 

In October 2003, the UNCAC was passed by the 58th UN General Assembly with support from 140 countries. The Convention currently has 183 States parties involved in its affairs and is the world’s only legal document in the field of anti-corruption.

China ratified the Convention in 2005 and has since strived to promote its use to various countries to carry out anti-corruption pursuits and pursue pragmatic cooperation. China has also actively advocated the establishment of a new international anti-corruption order under the UN framework.
