ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Peace Building Commission on Tuesday said that Ethiopia's recent reforms have made the East African country "a beacon of hope."

Members of the UN Peace Building Commission made the remarks during their meeting with Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, according to the Office of the Ethiopian President.

"The team expressed that the reforms taking place in Ethiopia have made the country a beacon of hope and stressed the importance of taking into consideration national objectives in the peacebuilding process," the Office said in a statement.

The Ethiopian president, during her discussion with members of the Commission, also emphasized the crucial "importance of building on local practices and know-how in developing peacebuilding initiatives."

On Monday, members of the Commission had also met with high-level officials of the African Union (AU), during which AU officials commended the success of peace and security sector ties between the AU Commission and the United Nations in bringing about stability across various African countries.
