UN Secretary-General applauds China's contribution to peacekeeping

New York (People’s Daily) – UN Secretary-General António Guterres spoke highly of China’s important contribution to the UN peacekeeping mission during a meeting with Wang Xiaohong, Deputy Minister of Public Security of China, at the UN Headquarters in New York on Friday.

China adheres to the highest standards for the selection and training of peacekeeping police officers, Guterres said, commending their excellent professional qualities and conduct such as strictly abiding by the UN's work norms and disciplinary requirements during peacekeeping missions.

Guterres also said that the UN appreciates China’s support for capacity- building of peacekeeping police and expects Beijing to play a greater role in peacekeeping missions.

Wang promised that China will implement the consensus reached between the Chinese leader and Guterres by firmly supporting UN’s role in peacekeeping, continuing to back the capacity building of UN peacekeeping police and playing a greater role in promoting and maintaining world peace.

“At the same time, China is willing to strengthen the pragmatic cooperation with the United Nations in the countries along "One Belt and One Road" in the fields of security, anti-drug measures and anti-terrorism to better benefit the people of all countries,” Wang added.
