Paris (People’s Daily) - UNESCO announced Friday that Audrey Azoulay, director-general of UNESCO, will visit China from July 16 to 19 to strengthen the strategic partnership between the organization and the country by assisting with the implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

This is her first official visit to China as director-general of UNESCO since she was elected last November.

According to the announcement, the visit is meant to “salute China’s commitment to multilateralism and to open a new era of cooperation between China and UNESCO.”

The director-general’s visit will focus on three main topics: education, culture, and new technology. The promotion of education in Africa, especially female education, will be Azoulay’s main concern for this visit, since it is an important sector where China has cooperated extensively with UNESCO in recent years.

In her agenda, the Azoulay will visit Xi’an and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors, which is named on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

She will also visit the Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Tsinghua University and take part in the inauguration of the Beijing International Center for Creativity and Sustainable Development.
