GAZA (Xinhua) -- Unknown militants fired on Monday night a homemade rocket from southern Gaza Strip into Israeli communities adjacent to the border, Palestinian and Israeli sources said.

Palestinian security sources and witnesses said that unknown militants fired a homemade rocket from southern Gaza Strip into southern Israel.

Meanwhile, an Israeli army spokesman said in a press statement that a projectile was fired from Gaza into southern Israel, adding that alarm sirens were turned on and the rocket landed on an empty area.

No damage or injuries were reported, according to the spokesman and no one claimed responsibility for the rocket attack.

On Nov. 13, a new wave of tension between the Israeli army and Gaza militants broke out.

Egypt and the United Nations intervened and brokered a truce between the two sides.
