The United States said Saturday it had delivered a letter from President Donald Trump for Kim Jong Un, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), at a meeting in Singapore.

Sung Kim, the US ambassador to the Philippines who has played a prominent role in US talks with the DPRK, handed over the letter to DPRK’s foreign minister Ri Yong Ho on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in the city state, according to State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert.

The letter was a response to one from Kim to Trump, the spokeswoman said.
