Caracas (People’s Daily) - Venezuela´s military intelligence arrested two former top oil officials Thursday morning, Eulogio del Pino and Nestor Martínez. Both were former presidents of the state oil company PDVSA and oil ministers. The attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, said they were involved with corruption.

These arrests are the result of a series of investigations regarding the corruption schemes involving the state oil company's subsidiaries in the United States, Citgo Petroleum Corporation (Citgo) and Petrozamora, a joint venture. Six top Citgo executives, including the acting president, were arrested last week.

During a meeting with oil workers on Tuesday, Venezuelan President Nicólas Maduro demanded an end to corruption. He said the anti-corruption campaign aims to turn the oil company into a power favoring the nation's economic development.
