Vietnam reports 8,766 new COVID-19 cases, 236,901 in total

HANOI, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 8,766 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, including 8,752 locally transmitted and 14 imported, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new infections brought the total tally to 236,901, with 4,487 deaths, the ministry said.

Most of the community cases were detected in southern Vietnam, including 3,416 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 1,897 in the nearby Binh Duong province, and 979 in Dong Nai province.

As many as 85,154 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 4,806 from Tuesday, while 11.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.

As of Wednesday, Vietnam has registered a total of 234,520 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 232,950 detected since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said.
