The World Trade Organization authorised Tuesday the EU to impose retaliatory tariffs on $4.0 billion in US goods and services annually over Washington's aid for Boeing.

The WTO, which a year ago permitted Washington to sanction Brussels for its support of Airbus, determined that the amount set Tuesday was "commensurate with the degree and nature of the adverse effects determined to exist" from illegal US subsidies for Boeing, according to the arbitrator's report.
