Chinese President Xi Jinping recently made important instructions on judicial, procuratorial and public security work, in which he called for resolutely maintaining social stability and adhering to and developing the "Fengqiao model" in the new era.

In the early 1960s, what is known today as the "Fengqiao model" began in the town of Fengqiao in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province. Its primary approach was to mobilize and rely on the people and resolve disputes at the grass-roots level. In November 1963, Comrade Mao Zedong made important instructions on learning and promoting the model. Since then, it has been promoted across the country.

In 2003, Xi Jinping, then secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), urged the local officials to cherish and promote the model and make innovations. Since becoming General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee in November 2012, Xi has more than once given important instructions on adhering to and developing the "Fengqiao model" in the new era.

On September 20, 2023, Xi went to Fengqiao town, visited the exhibition hall featuring the "Fengqiao model" to review the birth and evolution of this model, and learned about its vivid practices in the new era.

On November 6, 2023, Xi met with representatives of model units that apply the "Fengqiao model" in community-level governance, and encouraged them to further develop and promote the approach in the new era.
