Xi urges US, Iran to get back on track with negotiations

WASHINGTON, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday hoped the United States and Iran will return to the track of resolving issues through dialogue and negotiation as soon as possible.

In his talks with US President Donald Trump at the White House, Xi said China has always believed that the sovereignty and security of all countries should be respected, and has consistently played a constructive role in easing tensions and de-escalating situation.

China has encouraged relevant parties to stay committed to peaceful solutions and maintain the momentum of talks, he said.

Xi also said China supports the United States and Iran in returning to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

He also voiced the hope that the two countries will ultimately reach a comprehensive agreement covering the nuclear issue and other matters, and achieve peace at an early date.
