Globally, as of 6:50pm CEST on Wednesday, there have been 4,179,479 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 287,525 deaths, reported to WHO.

The outbreak has now claimed the lives of at least 84,106 people in the US, the most of any country. The US also leads the world in the number of confirmed infections with 1,390,250, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University as of 9:32 am BJT on Thursday.

Russia has confirmed 10,028 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, raising its total number of infections to 242,271, its coronavirus response center said in a statement Wednesday. The death toll grew to 2,212.

Another 494 COVID-19 patients have died in the UK as of Tuesday afternoon, bringing the total coronavirus-related death toll in the country to 33,186, the Department of Health and Social Care said Wednesday. As of Wednesday morning, 229,705 have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the department said.

It is followed by Spain with 228,691 infections and 27,104 deaths, Italy with 222,104 cases and 31,106 deaths, Brazil with 189,157 infections and 13,158 deaths, France with 178,184 cases and 27,077 fatalities and Germany with 174,098 infections and 7,861 deaths.

Turkey on Wednesday confirmed 1,639 new COVID-19 cases and 58 more deaths in the past 24 hours, according to Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Turkey rose to 143,114, while the death toll surged to 3,952, he tweeted.

Iran on Wednesday confirmed 1,958 new COVID-19 infection cases, taking the total cases to 112,725. It registered 50 new deaths over past 24 hours, bringing the total to 6,783 since the disease outbreak in the country in late February.
