Paris (People's Daily) -- French health authorities reported 483 new COVID-19 fatalities on Sunday, bringing the national total to 28,108, as the country relaxes its two-month long lockdown.

So far, 17,466 COVID-19 patients have died in hospitals, with another 10,642 fatalities in nursing homes and at other medico-social establishments.

Health officials explained the increase in nursing home fatalities was due to a balance sheet data correction from multiple facilities.

Meanwhile, hospitalizations and ICU admissions continue to decline. The health ministry said the hospital admission rate dropped to 19,361 from 19,432 on Saturday, with ICU numbers falling to 2,087.

On Sunday, new COVID-19 infections increased by 120, bringing the total to 142,411.

The government has warned it would consider a second lock down should daily infection numbers rise above 3,000.
