Some citizens discovered some unfamiliar aquatic organisms, suspected of being freshwater jellyfish in Fuyuan County, Qujing City, Yunnan Province. After examination and identification by experts from the Kunming Institute of Zoology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the species was confirmed to be the endangered "Craspedacusta sowerbyi". Craspedacusta sowerbyi is a kind of endangered ancient coelenterate and has been dubbed as the "underwater giant panda", with a survival history of at least 600 million years.

At present, the local authorities have initiated relevant protection work to ensure the living environment of Craspedacusta sowerbyi.
